School Visitors and Employees
Visitors are welcome in the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. For the safety and protection of students, all persons entering the school must sign in at the office and wear an identification badge while in the school. This includes school staff and other school board employees, parents, and visitors.

Student Safety
To help ensure a safe school for our students, staff, and community, persons entering the school as a condition of entrance or continued attendance, may be subject to searches using metal detectors conducted by school staff and/or the Virginia Beach Police Department. Additional changes in safety measures are: video surveillance of the school grounds and parking lot areas, as well as having staff members monitoring the lobby and assisting with checking into the office upon entering the school.

Get Involved!
Boy Scouts of America
Looking for enthusiastic boys and den leaders to join in the fun. Get involved in Pack Meetings, parade marching, Pinewood Derby racing, family camping and Scout Olympics. Call Jim Waltz, Cubmaster at 495-1546 for information.

Girl Scouts of America

Adopt A Spot/Beautification Program

Rosemont Forest Walking and Jogging Club
Student get physically fit while having fun. Also needed are volunteers to help monitor programs. Students contact Mr. Breland at RoFo.

Before School Programs and Clubs
The school offers opportunities to join in the fun at some before school programs and clubs. Check with your child's teacher for information.

Volunteers In Education (VIE)
Lots of different ways to volunteer and help out. What would you like to do; Work in the Library, P.E., helping a teacher, a school event? Contact and PTA Officer and ask for information on new programs this year!

Before and After School Programs
The Department of Parks and Recreation provides before-school programs at elementary schools from 7:00am to 8:30am. The after-school program operates from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Programs operate concurrently with the school's calendar and are supervised by 2-3 qualified staffers. For information on registration, cost, and space availability, call the City Recreation Department at 471-5884, or the City of Virginia Beach Line at 427-3580 #280.

Clinic/Health and Administration of Medication Policies
The clinic, staffed by a registered nurse, provides health screenings, health assessment and care, and first aid for school related illnesses and injuries. Short term medications are discouraged. If a student is required to take prescription or nonprescription medication during school hours, the following guidelines must be followed:
- A written order from the physician/dentist, stating student's name, medication, time, duration, and dosage to be given to the school,is required, along with the parents'/guardian's signature.
- Medication must be in a currently-labeled prescription container.
- Students are not permitted to carry medicine to school. All medication to be administered, as ordered, is to be taken to the school office/clinic by the parent/guardian.
- Contact the school nurse for further help, questions, or concerns.

In 1999 the Virginia General Assembly passed a new law for the requirement of Hepatitis B immunization for all students entering sixth grade on or after July 2001. This law will affect second through fourth graders. This is a three series shot that can be given over a four month time frame, but generally is given over six months. Once the immunization is completed, please provide documentation to the school so that your child's record can be updated.

Late Arrivals
Students arriving at the school late must report to the office to be counted in attendance before going to class. A note from the parent explaining the reason for late arrival is required.

Early Dismissal/Leaving School Grounds
When leaving school prior to dismissal, students must report to the office to be signed out by a parent or an adult the parent designates.

Transfers
Parents of student withdrawing from school should contact the office at least two days prior to the last day of attendance. This allows time for completion of records, return of books, and typing of the transfer form. Parents may pick up the transfer form from the office on the student's last day or it may be sent home with the student upon request. All accounts with the school should be settled prior to the transfer.

School Closing or Cancellation
If normal school operation hours are disrupted due to inclement weather or any condition that may affect the safety of our children and staff, the school divisions Web site - www.vbschools.com - will keep you informed. If you do not have access to the Web site you may call the 24 hour Beach-Line at 427-3580 and enter code #856 for the most current information on school openings and closings.

School Breakfast/Lunch
Every student is expected to buy or bring lunch. The cafeteria serves Type "A" hot lunches, including milk, at a student cost of $1.60. Breakfast is available at a student cost of $1.00. Prices are for one student meal. If a student wants to purchase additional food items, the items may be purchased on an a la carte basis. Milk, for example, may be purchased separately for .40 cents. Lunch boxes and bags should be marked with the student's name and room number. Students are expected to practice good manners and socialize quietly in the cafeteria.

Please be sure that students have lunch money daily if they are not bringing a lunch from home. For your convenience, students may pay for lunches on a weekly or monthly basis. Please make checks payable to Rosemont Forest Cafeteria and put your child's 4-digit number on the check. Please also note if the payment is for lunch or for the a la carte menu. You may send one combined check in for several children with a not that explains how the amount should be designated. The cashier will carefully maintain credits.

Student Supply Store
The supply store is operated on a daily basis for the convenience of students. Profit from the he sale of school supplies such as pencils, paper, notebooks, etc., is used to provide instructional materials and teaching aids.

Guidance and Counseling Policy
The school division shall make guidance and counseling programs related to academic, career, and personal/social counseling available to all students. No student shall be required to participate in any guidance and counseling program to which the student's parents object. Purposes and objectives of the program shall reflect the needs of the students and be developed by an advisory committee in each school which shall include parents. All programs and services shall be in compliance with state regulations.

Child Find/Special Education
Special education programs are available for students between the ages of 2 and 21 who are found to be eligible. Information concerning special education may be obtained from the main office upon request. The school's Special Education/Student Support team processes all referrals made by the classroom teacher, parent, or referring source. The school system maintains an active continuing Child Find program designed to identify, locate, and evaluate children in need of special education. The program includes the screening of students new to the system in speech, voice, language, gross motor, vision, and hearing.

Academic Recognition
In keeping with the philosophy of the school system and its commitment to excellence in education, academic achievement is recognized through the establishment of a principal's list and honor roll for students in grades 3, 4 and 5.

Principal's List: A student must make an "A" in all subjects with outstanding or satisfactory in all other areas.

Honor Roll: A student must maintain a "B" average in all ll subjects with no grade lower than a "C" and outstanding or satisfactory in all other areas.

Gifted and Talented Program
Programs are available for students who are found to be eligible in the areas of academics, dance, and/or visual arts. Eligible students apply to attend a select school program at Old Donation Center or receive instruction in gifted cluster classrooms and the gifted resource room at the home school. Information concerning these programs is available in the main office upon request.

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parents are encouraged to have periodic conferences with teachers. For a conference at any time other than on a regularly scheduled school conference date, please contact the office for arrangements to meet with the teacher before or after school hours.
